Pay As You Throw (PAYT)
PAYT requires that residents purchase special City of Waterville trash bags (see example at bottom of screen) at participating vendors in order for their trash to be collected by the City. Bags will be available for purchase at most grocery stores. There are two bag sizes – Large (30 gallon) and Small (15 gallon). Large bags include 5 bags per roll for $10; Small bags include 8 bags per roll for $10. Click here to view the list of local vendors that will carry these bags.
The City of Waterville’s PAYT system will begin the week of September 8th. Rubbish will continue to be collected on your regular trash day. Trash not placed in the City of Waterville pay-as-you-throw trash bags will not be collected. Residents who don’t want to participate can opt to contract with private haulers for their trash removal.
The City of Waterville’s Public Works Department will continue to pick up trash with the same collection routes, WasteZero will provide the specialized bags to local stores. Sullivan’s Waste Disposal will pick up recyclables on the first and third weeks of the month and transport them to ecomaine, and ecomaine will process the recyclable materials.
