Large trash can be picked up from your curb in a few ways, depending on the item. Bulky items that do not fit in your trash bin can be left beside it, and they will be picked up on your regular trash day, unless it is a holiday week, when no large trash is collected.
Want to donate appliances (white goods) and building materials in good working condition to a local charity rather than sending them to a landfill? Call Community Forklift at 301-832-0781. The nearby nonprofit will pick up large items free of charge.
Finally, white goods that do not work, tires, and other waste can be picked up by the City’s contractor on the following Monday. Collection must be scheduled in advance by calling (301) 985-5032 no later than Friday at 12:00 p.m. (noon). White goods include the following household appliances – Air Conditioners, Freezers, Refrigerators, Stoves, Washers, Dryers, Hot Water Heaters, and Dishwashers.
Warning – items such as refrigerators are subject to a special requirement: the door must be removed from any item that has an airtight seal or that cannot be opened from inside. Maryland state law requires this step to ensure that children are not trapped inside.
